Encoding Suggestions for TV Shows Greetings to the group!
I've been transcoding my family dvd collection for a couple years now & have run through the gambit of options from divx to xvid to x264.
I've finally decidec on x264 for all future conversions and am getting ready to start my Buffy & Angel DVD sets.
I could use some suggestions on the x264 codec settings. After reading through the AWESOME AVC VFW guide, I've played with one-too many settings I think & need help to decide what options to use!
I'd like to transcode the episdoes down to about 400mb per episode (42 minutes average). I'd like the video quality to be as best as possible (for the file size) with AC3 audio. Then, after all that, I'd like the transcode process to go as quickly as possible! (Not asking for a lot here *grin*)
I'm using Fairuse Wizard 2.6. It seems that no matter what I do, the FPS won't go above 20, thus taking quite a long time per episode.
I've used Fairuse in the past and seem to recall that I've had it up to 45 FPS on the same PC before I played with settings. (BTW, I have a Pentium D 930 proc, 2 GIG DDR2-667, ATI AIW X1800XL PCIe).
Based on all of that, can anyone suggest what settings the codec should be set to? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt O.

A Small Suggestion ! Hi Friend .. Well, I've Been Encoding TV Series For A While And Here's My Suggestion As For The Encoder Settings :
Resolution = 440*352 Or 512*384
Video Bitrate = 875 Kbps
Audio Bitrate = 128 Kbps
Audio Codec = Lame MP3
You Can Set The Other Things The Way You Like, Here's What I Suggest :
Keyframe Boost = 70
Betaframe Reduction = 20
Bitrate Variability = 40
Max Quant = 31
Min Quant = 4
Max Quant Steps = 5
Hope This Was Helpful !
