Need Advice About Encoder Settings !
Hi Everyone ! Well, I Used To Encode To x264 Since The Early Builds, And I'm Enjoying The Quality It Gives To The Point That You Can Tell That I'm A Fan Of It. Anyway, I'm Actually Encoding Some Music Videos And I Need Advice About That .. Here Are The Settings I Use : Resolution = 512*384 Bitrate = 1864 Kbps Keyframe Boost = 70% Betaframe Reduction = 20% Bitrate Variability = 30% Max QP = 21 Min QP = 4 Max QP Step = 5 Scene Cut Threshold = 40 Min IDR-Frame Interval = 10 Max IDR-Frame Interval = 250 Bidirectional-ME = Checked Weighted Biprediction = Checked Adaptive = Checked Direct Mode = Spatial Partition Decision = 7-RDO Method = UMH Range = 32 DCT Decimate - Chroma ME - Mixed REF = Checked So, Are These Settings Convinient For Music Videos Encoding ? Is There Anything That I Need To Change ? Another Question : When Browsing The Web I've Found A Lot Of x264 VFW Builds, I've Even Found A Japaneese One, Some Are By DTS, Some Others By Snow Xmas And So On, I'm A Bit Confused, What Build Should I Use ? Are All These Builds Compliant With The AVC H.264 Standard ? Please Inform Me About That. Thanks Again For Your Support To VFW, Don't Know What To Do Without You.

Remember to check the guide for settings advice. It does look like you are using good settings, however. I like the fact that you specified a larger keyframe boost and smaller keyframe interval--in music videos, this is almost a necessity for the rapidly changing scenes and flashy effects. As for range 32 and subme7, these are extra quality options that reduce encoding time considerably for a small gain. Is this your intention? Also, it's best to use "Auto" Direct mode, since a music video is bound to have all sorts of differing scenes and fluid motion effects that would benefit from the automatic encoder-level selection of B-frame modes. Yes, it is compliant to the H.264 standard. However, in order to create a pure, raw H.264 bitstream (.h264 file), you'd need to use YAMB or similar to extract the video stream from your AVI.
